The Teddy Bear Case
Posted on November 29th, 2007 in Parenting

Teddy bears are cute, cuddly and lovable. Some kids are so accustomed to having teddy around that they can't even sleep without them. Young couples normally give teddy bears as a sign of love. It's not something that leads you to trouble or harm. But that is not the case for a British teacher in Khartoum, Sudan.
Gillian Gibbons, a teacher in Unity High School, was arrested because of a teddy bear named Mohammed. Seven year-old students from her class named a teddy bear “Mohammed” as part of a school project. And because of this, Gillian Gibbons was arrested by police for “insulting religion and inciting hatred.” This offense is punishable by 40 lashes.
