Single Parent: Life as a Single Parent Explained

Posted on August 8th, 2009 in Parenting

Obvious this is, but single parents face all the responsibilities of raising a child all by themselves. However, in practice, it means that the single parent is often torn between work and time with his / her children. Also, it is sometimes a lonely thing to do. The UK has a registered charity for single parents, called Gingerbread, which is run by single parents.
Sadly, modern society seems to be one where all situations of single-parenthood are caused by one of the parents dying…
Between all the single parents’ blogs, single parents’ holiday offers and single parents dating services so easily findable on Internet search engines, it is possible to purchase books devoted entirely towards single parents’ stories (one such title is Unbroken Homes).

But just because it is a challenge and a responsibility few can handle does not mean that there are no stories of personal growth in relation to single parenting told without prompting. Check out http://www.about-personal-growth.com/single-parent.html if you do not believe me.
Shelter, a registered charity in the UK which responds to homelessness and other accommodation issues, claims to offer expert advice on all things to do with housing for single parents. But it is websites like http://www.lone-parents.org.uk that are especially devoted to offering advice to single parents when they need it most. Besides the Survival Guide section, there are articles on returning to work, pearls of wisdom, panic attacks and even domestic violence.
True to empathy, there are those who speak of lost ambitions and suffering in silence on the same site.
