Thank goodness we’ve got another 15+ years until he gets is drivers license, another 8 or so until he demands a tree house several stories up in the air, and at least 2 more (maybe?) until he’s skateboarding in live traffic. Not sure our insurance policy is ready to keep up with what is on the horizon line for the wee man now that he’s clearly passed the “No Fear” line at the playground. And one day, when his future teachers gently suggest that he’s a bit of a handful during recess, we can

Ask ARP: How can I stop my child’s father from teaching him the n-word? Dear Anti-Racist Parent, I have a 17-month old son with my ex-boyfriend, who is now my best friend. We all live together. My ex is Hispanic and I am white. My son looks like me but has a darker complexion like his dad. Here is my problem: my ex likes to think and say that he is black. Actually he says he’s a “n**ger” In fact, the n-word is one of his favorite words. He says it ALL the time. He says he’s going to teach hi

The wee fella seems a bit idea curious in very unexpected ways as of late. Something tells me he’s not truly interested in a magazine article entitled “Geeks and Space”, no matter how forward-thinking we may be about kids these days. I can almost begin see the near predictable PowerPoint image allusion getting ready to spike the Idea2.0 football when the “digital native” point needs to be scored for S-n-G’s at some future conference presentation.

I’ve been working from home this week because I’ve been sidelined with a bad case of pink eye. A couple days after I got it the Boy woke up with a suspicious gooey eye and sure enough he was smitten too. So it’s a father and son bonding thing I guess. The Wife and the Girl are safe for the time being. I still haven’t figured out how I got it but I suspect it has something to do with the night the Girl was sick with a cold and puffy eyed and we let her sleep on my side of the bed…on my pi

I started potty training my two-year-old this week. The first day, she used the potty five times, including a #2! Apparently, the novelty has worn off. I put her in panties today, and she went potty once, but had an accident after that. We’re staying home all day tomorrow, so we’ll get back in the saddle! CLICK HERE TO COMMENT!!

As my due date is rapidly approaching - I am now down to single digits until my actual due date - my thoughts turn not to what my new baby might look like, or fanciful dreams of bringing the new baby home. I’m a pragmatist: right now it’s all about what I’m going to use for pain relief during labour. With my first son, I was induced and though I valiantly fought against having an epidural (mostly out of fear because my mom and sister spoke of its ‘horrors’) was finally told I needed to have
